Zen Toolworks CNC Carving Machine DIY Kit 7x7

NOT INCLUDED - This is just the CNC machine with motors. You will need a 3 Axis Stepper Motor Driver to manage each motor, a spindle/cutter (a Dremel would work) and a DC power supply for the driver. You will also need a computer with a standard printer port and CNC software. - You will also need a way to mount and secure the spindle/cutter tightly to the Z-axis plate on the machine. We offer a Spindle Kit complete with a mounting frame for this machine. We also offer a 3 Axis Stepper Motor Driver that we use with our CNC systems.

You are looking at a DIY kit of a CNC carving machine. Now you can build your very own CNC carving machine to do relief carving, letter cutting, inlay and all other interesting features to enhance your woodworking, PCB or other projects.
The body of the machine is constructed with high density PVC boards. Steel guid rod, linear bearing and stainless steel lead screws are used to construct the moving parts. The anti-backlash brass nut design will virtually eliminate all backlashes. New Nema 17 motors(2 phases, 1.3A, 4 leads) for all three axis are also included. The install is very easy, if you have a bench vise and a power screw driver, that will really help. Install instruction CD is included in the package. Assembling the CNC is very fun and only takes around 3-4 hours to complete. You will be amazed by what can be achieved by this machine. Finally, you can build and own your very own CNC machine for a price that's within your budget!

A graphic play with wood & metal types

FREE INTERNATIONAL LETTERPRESS WORKSHOPS 2011, Denmark

I hereby invite all letterpress printers to come and work in my letterpress studio with full access to all printing equipment etc.

The workshops will be held from 20th-23rd & 26th-29th of May and 16th-19th & 22nd-25th of September - all days included.

The plan is during the four workshops to produce, the participants in cooperative, eight art prints of a complex, innovative and high quality, helping promoting the art and craft of letterpress printing in Northern Europe. It’s also the intension to give the participants a challenge working with letterpress on other conditions, technical as well as creative and personal, than they use to do in their private shops - and to have a good experience, a lot of fun and networking.

The topic for the workshops will be:
PRINTING WITH MOVEABLE TYPES AS A CONTEMPORY ART FORM

The artworks will be printed on 38x56 cm Somerset Velvet in a limited edition of twenty.

There will also be an opportunity to print some individual and private jobs.

To provide optimal working conditions the workshops are limited to two participants per workshop.

All participants will after the last workshop receive a complete set of all art prints of the main project. Four sets will be reserved to my workshop and the cooperators. The remaining sets will be sold in the autumn of 2011 on etsy.com. An eventually profit of the workshops will be used financing free international letterpress workshops in the future.

The work and atmosphere during the four workshops will be documented on the internet.

Participation to the workshops is free of charge. I will open our home and provide you with local transport, a bed, good food etc. You will only have to pay the costs of your journey and the paper you are using for your private jobs.

Please remark that these workshops are for people already familiar with graphic design and letterpress.

If you are interested in joining the workshops, please send me a mail within 20th of March with information about your experience in letterpress printing and your wish for dates. If necessary I will choose among the applicants and make a waiting list.

Squeezed into about 311 square feet of shop space are five presses, ten cabinets of type, a radial arm router, printer's saw, floor model drying rack, three storage cabinets, a light table, three work tables, three paper and ink storage tables, two galley racks (technically three, but one is full of plastic cases which hold type, thus counted as a type cabinet), two quarter case cabinets, two file cabinets, all of my bookbinding tools, and innumerable boxes of unprinted stock and supplies. Not everything has found it's place, but at least I no longer have to walk sideways.
